National Dinosaur Museum, Canberra
All things dinosaur related and a great place to visit during school holidays. Barton Highway, Nicholls, Canberra.
Walking With Dinosaurs
BBC documentary about dinosaurs. The realistic rendition of dinosaurs will blow you away. The DVD of the series is available at most DVD outlets.
Jurassic Park
One of the first "dinosaur movies" to have realistic dinosaur renditions. I guess we don't need to say much more. The DVD of the movie is available at all DVD outlets.
Melbourne Planetarium
Located in Spotswood, near the Westgate Bridge, a visit to Science Works and the Planetarium is always a great day out. Try to catch one of their shows while you are there too. They also have a large sample of the Cranbourne Meteorite on display.
Heavens Above
Ever wanted to know when you can see the Space Station or Hubble Telescope? What about other satellites? The Heavens Above site allows you to enter your location and it will tell you when these and other objects will be visible. The most impressive objects are "Iridium Flares" which occur when sunlight is reflected off the surface of an iridium phone satellite toward your location and can be more than 100 times brighter than the planet Venus.
Solar System Model
On the foreshore of St. Kilda a 1:1 billion scale model of our solar system has been created, beginning with a 1 metre diameter model of the Sun and stretching northwards with similar scaled models of the planets (Jupiter is about the size of a grapefruit), or check out our own portable scale solar system!
Public viewings by Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society (MPAS)
On the first Friday of every month, MPAS run public viewings at their site at "The Briars", south of Frankston, from 8pm regardless of weather. If it is clouded out, they will have several astronomy related presentations. Most viewing nights I will be there presenting a talk or some tmes with my computer controlled 11 inch telescope to show you the heavens. You can also request the society to have a viewing night at your school. Contact the society for details. I have placed a link on my site where I will attempt to post information about the talk I will be presenting. Each time I try to present a different subject, so if you come regularly you won't get bored.
Astronomy for the People (AFTP) by Astronomical Society of Victoria (ASV)
If you would like to have people from the ASV attend your school for viewings of the night sky please contact their AFTP coordinator for details. I attend most of their AFTP events with my telescope.
